6 Great Ways to Use Deck and Garden Gazebos

Do you have a beautiful outdoor gazebo in your backyard, but it sits empty because you are not sure what to do with it?

Here’s a look at some of the creative ways homeowners are decorating and enjoying deck and garden gazebos.

oHome Office

With computer notebooks, high speed wireless internet connections and cell phones there’s no need to stay stuck inside doing business. If you work at home, then take your office outdoors and enjoy the warm sun and fresh air while you’re wheeling and dealing.

All you need to add is a desk, chair, some leather stackable filing boxes, and a bulletin board for the ultimate gazebo home office. Accent your space with accessories in warm earth tones-browns, greens, and terra cottas for a connected to nature feel.

Imagine how your clients will love coming to meetings in your wonderful outdoor living space!

oSpa Gazebo

If you want to enjoy a hot dip in the whirlpool rain or shine, or on a chilly fall evening then this is a great solution. Many build deck or garden gazebos to incorporate a spa. If you do this you’ll also have all the privacy you want.

Gazebos can be glassed or screened in and look great accented with baskets of crisply rolled neutral coloured towels in big wicker baskets.

oKid’s Playhouse

Do you have children? A gazebo makes a fun kid’s playhouse. Position the gazebo just slightly off to the side of the house so you can keep an eye on the kids. Fill it with big pillows, a small table and chairs and a throw rug.

Keep your color scheme bright and fun in playful shades of red, blue, yellow and green. Then add plenty of toys like Lego, board games, coloring books, and stuffed animals for a playhouse they’ll never want to leave.

An added bonus – a playhouse gazebo will keep kids safely shaded on very sunny days.

oPotting Shed

Transform your garden gazebo into a potting shed by equipping it with a potting bench, seed packs, foliage, interesting containers, and all your favourite garden tools.

Hang some garden gloves, wall planters and a garden apron or hat at various points along the inside of the gazebo. Make a statement by artfully placing a watering can full of flowers just outside the entrance.

Your favourite hobby now has a spectacular new home.

o Exercise Space

You can create the ultimate space for outdoor exercise inside your gazebo.
Remove your shutters to enjoy your backyard view and let the fresh air blow in.

It’s always refreshing to position your gazebo close to water if you can. For example, near a swimming pool, a pretty pond, a rushing waterfall, or a trickling fountain so you can gaze out at the tranquil blue water and soak in its soulful sound.

Some people decorate gazebos with tulle to help give that breezy feel. Others add candles, mats and Asian garden accents if they’re practising Yoga or Tai Chi.

o Dessert Room

If you love to entertain outdoors in the evenings, then you know by dessert time things start to get a little buggy. That’s when it makes perfect sense to move your company into your screened in gazebo for a delicious dessert and a nice cappuccino.

A great way to make your garden gazebo more intimate is to build a cushioned bench that wraps all the way around inside. Top off the space with a nice big table covered in a pretty linen tablecloth and lots of glowing candles. It’s the perfect cozy after dinner spot where you can laugh and enjoy until late into the summer night.

So start thinking today about new and interesting ideas for deck and garden gazebos. Collect images of gazebos from decorating magazines to get ideas. The possibilities for this timeless garden structure are endless. Just use your imagination.

Luxurious Living in the Garden Is One Way to Expand Your Home and Utilise Outdoor Space

Increasing numbers of home owners are exploring ways to expand the available space in their homes. People are less keen to sell up and move home, especially when the housing market can be so unpredictable. Instead, they are turning to reputable craftsmen who make and install fine garden rooms and house extensions.

One particularly popular use of a garden pavilion is as a home office. Increasing numbers of people are working from home. People want to enjoy the freedom of working from home, but still need a separate working space. A bespoke garden pavilion, designed as a home office, is the perfect solution.

Imagine waking in the morning, and all you need to do to get to work is stroll across the lawn. Garden offices still have all the facilities and equipment any city office would have. They are fitted with excellent lighting that meets a client’s requirements. Windows, air conditioning, small kitchen and bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi and IT, and even additional rooms for meetings or creative studios can be added if required.

Another use of the garden room is as a wayof expanding the living space. During the spring summer and autumn the weather is still mild, and many families enjoy the combination of enjoying the garden space from a beautiful gazebo. They make wonderful eating and entertaining spaces, and often they are used to expand the main family room too.

Garden rooms are also being ordered and built to be used as children’s playrooms. Children love to be out in the garden, exploring nature and enjoying the fresh air. A bespoke garden room for children is a wonderful way of giving your children a playroom, easy access to the outdoors, and giving them their own space too. No more worrying about paint splashes or crayon marks in the house. Your little darlings will be able to be as creative and playful as they wish while they are enjoying time in their own magical playhouse!

For families who need additional space, garden rooms are perfect. They are a great way to create a beautiful, comfortable and unusual space to accommodate guests. And when not in use as a guest house, they can be used as reading rooms, summers houses or entertainment dens.

There is no limit to the ways you can effectively use the additional space that a garden room gives you. Some people have even had them built as extensions for their kitchens, bringing the outdoors in and the indoors outside!

Or for the ultimate in luxury, you could have a garden spa room, with a hot tub, sauna and all the luxuries of your favourite spa. These beautiful pavilions can even be built as swimming pool houses. You and your family will only be a few steps away from a swim, a sauna and a relaxing hour in the hot tub. What could be more inviting that that?

If you are looking for the ultimate way to expand the space you have, while adding luxury and beauty, you should consider a hand-crafted pavilion.

Weight Loss and Gardening?

Weight loss and gardening really go together in more ways then one!

Reading heaps of “how to lose weight’ books the fact that struck me on more than one occasion was that exercise is certainly as important as eating less. Along side this was the repeated suggestion of fitness routines, workouts, gym memberships, I ‘m sure you have all been there.

An infrequent suggestion was that if you incorporate exercise into your daily routine of living you could certainly achieve weight loss. As a keen gardener, I find gardening plenty of exercise! Consider weeding, instead of just bending and pulling weeds, try the bend and stretch exercise bending and straightening up four or five times, pulling weeds out on the downward motion. Be careful if you have a back, complaint as bending from the waist is not helpful unfortunately we all do it! Bending at the knees is so much healthier for backs; rise to standing from your knees, as you get older this is not that easy to do. Take it slowly and carefully increasing the number of times as the joints become accustomed to it.

Carrying weights does not need a weight training gym; just carry buckets or watering cans around the garden. Perhaps starting with half full buckets or if you are a half-empty sort person look at it that way! Lawn mowing is tops, especially for those with large areas of it, more difficult if you live in an apartment, of course then you could perhaps walk round the mall instead!

Pruning trees another means of stretching and extending the muscles of the arms and shoulders, no trees, pretend you have them! Sometimes just walking to and back from your garden shed is exercise in itself. How many times have you said I’ll do it tomorrow when putting something away, or getting a tool from the shed. I cannot be bothered feeling is prevalent and stands in the way of getting your exercise!

Does your garden have steps leading to a focal point that you are proud of seeing everyday? Use the steps to enjoy your garden, all the while walking up and down for a set period of time that you can increase as the days go by.

Do you have a large garden that lends itself to running or jogging? How much easier it is to stay home and jog! Cultivate a mindset that can see the exercise opportunities right under our noses and cost nothing.

Gardening also grows the fresh fruit and vegetables that are essential to our continued good health. I also go swimming most days, because of the weightless properties of water it is so relaxing, finish with a spa and its heaven!

Home and Garden Spas 5-Person 19-Jet Hot Tub Review

Hot Tubs manufactured by Home and Garden Spas are well renowned for their energy efficient construction & design as well as being durable and packed with plenty of features, so I had high hopes this Spa would be something special.

The Home and Garden Spas 5-Person 19-Jet Hot Tub is an affordable five-person hot tub kitted out with Home and Garden Spas flagship features such as high-density foam insulation and user-friendly controls. Here, we’ll drill down into some of the key features to help determine if it’s the choice for you.

Features of the Home and Garden Spas 5-Person 19-Jet Hot Tub

5-person capacity
19 jets delivering hydro-therapeutic relief
110 volts operation
Easy to use digital controls
1.5 HP motor
Multi-layered fibreglass construction
High-density foam insulation
Slip-resistant surface

5-person capacity

The 5-person seating capacity makes this ideal to enjoy with the company of family or friends. It’s rare to find a Spa which only runs on 110 volts yet has such as high seating capacity so if easy installation appeals to you, then this is a plus factor.

110 volts operation

This Spa is powered by 110 volts so if you’re unable to have a dedicated electrical circuit fitted on your property then this is good news. On the downside, it will take longer to heat up than 220 volt Spas, but not significantly longer.

19 jets delivering hydro-therapeutic relief

19 jets are strategically located to provide you hydro-therapeutic relief for your neck, shoulder, calf, and feet. The jets can be controlled conveniently via the topside digital controls so you can adjust the temperature and power to your preference.

They are powered by a 1.5 horse power pump, which is designed to use a minimal amount of energy even when it is operating at its full capacity; this is good for keeping the electricity costs down.

One standout feature is the lounger seat with comfort cushion headrest. This is very luxurious and comfortable, the jets located under it, provide a relaxing sensation throughout your body.

Slip-resistant surface

As you want to have fun in your Spa and move about at your leisure, you don’t want to worry about slipping and incurring an injury. This possibility is greatly reduced thanks to the slip-resistant surface.

Final Thoughts

On the downside, the pump is only 1.5 horse power, so it isn’t as powerful as most similar priced spas although it has the advantage of only requiring 110 volts to operate so a dedicated 220 volt electrical system is not required.

Overall, the Home and Garden Spas 5-Person 19-Jet Hot Tub is a great hot tub, which is ideal for a family or a party of friends. It’s comfortable, roomy, energy efficient and has a good jet system to provide therapeutic effects for maximum relaxation.

Spring Landscaping Tips for Homeowners and Garden Enthusiasts

Whether it may feel like it or not, spring is right around the corner. March 1st marks the beginning of the spring season. With the change in seasons and the suns rotation, the outside and soil temperatures slowly rise, jump starting the dormant plants. With daylights savings soon approaching, we begin seeing longer days and more hours of sunlight as the first of the flowering bulbs start to bloom. March is the kickoff month; and it is exciting to watch the transition and the forces of Mother Nature at her best, as the bountiful first signs of spring start to finally appear.

As the month of March progresses, you will notice some of the first plants and bulbs begin to bloom. Witch Hazel, Snowdrops, Crocus, Lenten Rose, Forsythia, Hyacinth, early Daffodils and Vinca will start showing up in the beginning of the month. There is nothing more exciting than watching buds swelling up with the anticipation of flowers to come side by side with your spring bulbs, as they are breaking ground and reaching for the sun. All as a welcome sign to spring. Vinca, with their spring flowers of blues and purples look stunning alongside the yellow Daffodils, adding seas of color all throughout your yard.

As you stop by your local hardware and garden centers signs of spring will soon be arriving. A great way to add an early spring punch is with early season perennials, annuals and forced bulbs. Arranging them into planters carefully selected and placed in key focal areas of your garden are a great way to get an early start on the season and add interest to areas currently still stuck in winter mode.

It is never too early to start working in your garden. A common mistake of many is waiting for the warmer months to begin to tend to their yard. March is the time to create your game plan for the season. Plan now, enjoy later. Setting up your gardens, corrective pruning and tipping back trees and shrubs, laying down fertilizer and splitting early perennials should all be items that are taken care of as soon as the opportunity arises. Use March to get ahead of the season, so when the warm beautiful days arrive, you will be able to enjoy your yard to its fullest.

While springtime is often associated with removing the clutter that has accumulated within your home, one should take advantage of the end of the dormant season and get outside as well. Save the inside for a rainy day! Rake out the thatch from your lawn, redefine those bed edges, and clean up the broken winter damage from plants. The early spring is the time to start pruning all of your ornamentals, shade trees and woody plants. Winter often causes damage to your yard and now is the time to start accessing the damage and instituting a plan for what needs to be done. It is also a fantastic time to split perennials. With a little extra labor, one plant can be split into four, helping to make your landscape lusher and healthier.

Arranging all of your care programs is a priority at this time as well. Getting a game plan formulated allows you to plan and budget for what you would like to see in your garden for the upcoming season. Everything from chemical care and I.P.M. (Integrated Pest Management) programs for your lawns, trees and shrubs, to maintenance and garden service programs, should all be planned out now. A little early and preventative planning will go a long way and show in the results for the summer months to come.

Common pests of our landscapes overwinter on your trees and shrubs and although you might not see signs of the damage to come a preventative program and spray schedule should be decided upon and carried out before any activity begins. Dormant oils are a safe alternative to harsher chemicals necessary to treat pest infestations once the problems manifests in the warmer months. They are an organic approach to eliminate larva and insects that have been hiding inside of your plants. It does a lot of wonders, and this is the right time to suppress any potential issues with what was hiding throughout the winter causing damage.

Plants and trees right now do not require much water. With the cool evenings and abundant ground moisture, little additional water is necessary, making it an ideal time for planting, fertilizing and over-seeding those bare patches on your lawn. Now is the time to kick start your plants. You do not want to miss the window of opportunity that early spring moisture provides to help your yard to benefit in the months to come.

Knowing that your property is taken care of early on in the season allows you the time to focus on everything else happening around you. The first few comfortably warm nights of spring, the sun setting later allowing you to feel like you have more time in each day. This is the time when the wonderful outdoor season begins. Time to fire up the grill and turn the heat on your hot tub or spa for a relaxing soak on a star-filled, crisp night. Winding down after a busy day in front of an outdoor fireplace with friends and family, and admiring the colors that are budding throughout your yard are the perks of early springtime.

Consult with a landscape professional for a plan that would work best for you and your home this spring season. Take advantage of this time of year and plan ahead. Scenic Landscaping in Northern New Jersey specializes in property care and maintenance, as well as designing and installing outdoor living spaces and can provide all the resources necessary to ensure the very best for you home.

This has been designed to accommodate 3 people so it’s a perfect choice for couples or a small family. The dimensions are 80″ W x 60″ L. Due to its small size it is a space saver as well as being economical because less water is required to be heated up to fill it.

Overall, this is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a high quality small hot tub for outdoor use. It’s pricey for a three person capacity, but considering the features packed in and its energy efficiency, it is a solid investment.

Make Your Home and Garden Your Own

There are lots of articles and even “how to” videos around regarding home and garden design tips. A recurring theme is to tie the patio décor with the colors and textures of the inside of the house. Of course, you will not put a second expensive living room couch outdoors… perhaps get a rattan piece in a similar color and design for the patio. Theme lanterns that project a pattern can reflect interior décor. You get the idea.

But, what do you do with a yard that is not necessarily flat or does not fit the traditional shape and size dimensions that are in the magazines???

Give it some character. Of course, tie it to the home interior with colors, woods, and materials as much as is practical. However, creating a terrace -or a series of them- can take a nightmare yard and turn it into something exclusively yours.

Elevating and leveling areas with various materials such as wood decking, concrete, or paver stones will give your patio area a character all its own. A series of steps up to a seating area with comfortable patio furniture surrounding a fire pit is one idea. Embedding lighting on the path and steps will keep everyone safe.

A structurally sound terrace can hold an outdoor spa and a privacy wall with weather protection can hold a big screen TV and outdoor stereo system. If your spa area is already above the level of the patio or entry you can add a level in between to dry off and ease the trek back to the patio.

Your outdoor cooking area can be on its own level with your barbeque, preparation tables, and built in refrigerator grouped together for cooking ease.

Garden fountains are another way to give your outdoor environs some character. There is something calming and serene about flowing water. These are available in lots of sizes and configurations and can be installed easily. Fountains have been common garden pieces for centuries and will add a level or 2 to basic patio or garden décor.

Garden statues and sculptures are another way to set your outdoor environment apart from the others. These can be historical replicas, religious, or any style that fits with your overall plan. Outdoor lighting can add dramatic effect to both fountains and outdoor sculptures and keep folks from walking into them in the dark.

Not all of us stay in our homes forever like many of our parents did. With current economic factors a move for a job change or educational opportunity is always a possibility. Or over time the home outgrows you as the kids grow up and move away. Keeping your patio and garden area design consistent with the overall home aura will help increase its value. Too eclectic a design can take it the other way. If your prospective buyer does not share your taste, the cost of your former pride and joy removal will be included in their offer. So, make it your own-but stay with the style and feel of the rest of your property.

So, make your space your own. Have it mirror your taste and attitudes. Use ideas like terraces and lawn pieces to make your yard and patio an area that is cozy, comfortable, and the best place for family and friends to gather for summertime fun.
